The United States Mint 50 States Quarter Program

In 1999, the US Mint issued quarters celebrating the first five states to join the union: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut. In 2000, five new quarters were released celebrating the states of Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire and Virginia. The first quarter issued in 2001 celebrates the state of New York; next, there will be a quarter celebrating North Carolina, Rhode Island, Vermont and Kentucky. New quarters will be issued every year until 2008. As of January 2001, the newest quarter in circulation was the New York quarter.

The Ohio quarter will be the second quarter to be launched in 2002. Click here for a quiz about the state of Louisiana.
